Have you ever thought about the many legal questions public relations practitioners face? Should you be writing contracts, and if so what terms you should include? Has your organization’s lawyers told you not to release certain information to the media or the public?

If so, Miami attorney Jason Gordon will answer all these questions and more at the March Space Coast FPRA program. His presentation will provide you with important legal information you need to successfully practice public relations and to stay away from legal troubles. Topics Attorney Gordon will address include:

  • jasongordonCommon terms in contracts for PR work which can lead to trouble, including unclear terms;
  • Terms that should be included in contracts;
  • Protecting PR professional’s work, including rights to use and avoiding responsibility for incorrect information or statements to the public; and
  • Media law and issues to consider when dealing with the media.

A South Florida native and alumnus of the University of Miami and the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Jason Gordon is an attorney with Heller Waldman P.L. in Miami. He brings years of legal experience dealing with business and commercial litigation and on issues involving public relations practitioners.

Are you new to facing cameras or dealing with journalists’ on-the-spot questions? Or, could your company spokesperson benefit from a brush-up on media training tactics?

Join us for breakfast on Thursday, February 18th for a media training “tune-up” with John Zarella, retired CNN correspondent. During this program, John will talk about the value of media training and go through some tips to consider when being interviewed. Learn about various aspects of the interview process–from what to wear, to social media pitfalls. You’ll receive highlights from his full-day coursework, including an overview of the basics of media training and “mock interviews” with a few volunteers from the audience.

John Zarrella was CNN’s Miami correspondent, named to this position when the Miami bureau was established in December 1983. Zarrella was responsible for CNN’s coverage of news in Florida, Central and South America and the Caribbean. He covered every major hurricane to hit Florida and the Gulf Coast, most recently Katrina and Rita; the Pope’s visit to Cuba; the eruption of the Montserrat volcano and the Cuban and Haitian refugee crises.

Zarrella was also a principal correspondent for CNN’s coverage of the U.S. space program, covering such events such as John Glenn’s 1998 return to space, the Mars Pathfinder mission and numerous space shuttle launches. Zarrella was the CNN network correspondent on site when the 1986 Challenger shuttle disaster occurred. In 2011, Zarrella covered the final flights of the Space Shuttle program.

Since his retirement in January 2014, John has started a John Zarrella Media offering news consulting, media training and video production services.
