  • Education/Background: BA in Communication and Information Sciences from The University of Alabama: Advertising & Public Relations major, Political Science minor
  • Why did you join FPRA:  I joined FPRA to build relationships, further develop communications skills and idea share techniques to implement and improve public relations within my career.
  • What is the most challenging part of your job: The most challenging part of my job is remembering the big picture. The planning and execution of events and publications are important but keeping the big picture in mind is necessary so we don’t become too caught up with details.
  • What is the most enjoyable part of your job: I would say the most enjoyable part of my job is the opportunity to meet new people. Each day, we have business owners, community leaders, community members, volunteers and tourists from all over the world coming in and out, so it’s fair to say there is never a dull day here at the chamber!
  • What are your hobbies/interests: I love children and being with my family, volunteering, playing tennis, bike riding, designing cards, reading and traveling.
  • Family Info: I live in Cocoa Beach with my amazing husband Jonathan.

Join us for a Social Media Roundtable featuring a panel of local social media experts. The panel features speakers from the space industry, agencies, media and small business. The local experts are seasoned in social media and work daily to support businesses or clients businesses in social media. They will present case studies, strategic guidance, and offer tips and tricks on how to use social media.

Brevard Workforce has an immediate opening in its Rockledge office for a full-time Communications Director.  This position will provide a proactive community outreach plan to increase the community’s awareness of programs administered by Brevard Workforce (BW) and/or delivered through BW Career Centers throughout Brevard County.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, English, Public Administration, Business Administration, Marketing or a closely related field preferred.  Five (5) years of workforce experience or experience in public relations activities required.  Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and demonstrated computer proficiency using Desktop Publishing, PowerPoint Presentation software, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook required. Ability to perform duties with limited supervision using professional discretion in a team setting required.  Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.

Additional qualifying education and/or experience providing the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted for the other on a year-for-year basis.

Compensation

Hiring range from $44,000 to $66,000 based on experience.  Full-time employees are eligible to participate in an attractive benefits package after introductory period with successful job performance.

The Space Coast Chapter of FPRA would like to welcome Lisa Nicholas, Redevelopment Specialist,  Rockledge Community Redevelopment Agency (RCRA).

  • When did you join RCRA: January 2011
  • Education: Actually, I was a psychology major, with minors in English and sociology.  I graduated with a BS in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Background: Primarily legislative; I worked for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for 12 years. I began my career there right out of college as a communications specialist, was promoted to legislative research analyst and then served as executive director for the Children & Youth Committee.  From there, I went on to lobby in the private sector, which is what I was doing when I relocated to Florida five years ago.  Since moving here, I’ve worked for the Florida House of Representatives and also served as a contractor for the External Relations Directorate at Kennedy Space Center.  Public relations has undoubtedly been a fundamental aspect in every position I’ve ever held!
  • Why did you join FPRA:  The organization provides Invaluable opportunities for professional development and networking. Also, having lobbied for a non-profit trade association, I realize the value of being actively engaged with an organization, as well as the multitude of resources that are offered through membership.
  • What is the most challenging part of your job:  Any time I have to deal with budgeting issues (I’m not fond of numbers!).
  • What is the most enjoyable part of your job: I administer a grant program for the City, as well as an advertising campaign, for our local merchants.  Reaching out to our community business owners and chatting with them about their projects and generating interest in what the City offers is very rewarding.  I enjoy the outreach and interaction.
  • What are your hobbies/interests:  Graphic design, walking, elliptical training
  • Family Info: Married, with two cats that are more spoiled than most children! But I moved to Florida to be closer to my parents, who reside in Cocoa Beach.

  • Education/Background:  BA, English and MPA, both from FSU, plus a nearly complete Master of Appalachian Studies from Appalachian University in Boone, NC. Almost 30 years in PR, marketing, fundraising, grant writing, and nonprofit management, including arts, education, and conservation organizations.
  • Why you joined the FPRA:  To personally connect with other professionals and to build relationships to further the mission of my organization
  • What is the most challenging part of your job:  Managing people and mastering the new media
  • What is the most enjoyable part of your job:  Building relationships and knowing I am making a difference in the quality of life in my community
  • What are your hobbies/interests:  Cycling, running, swimming, gardening, traveling

Media Issues in Government

Join us on Thursday, April 21,  for the next Space Coast FPRA Chapter event.

Wayne Ivey, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, will discuss ”Media Issues in Government.”

Wayne Ivey has been a Law Enforcement Officer for approximately 30 years.  He is currently assigned as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Brevard and Volusia County Field Offices. Ivey’s background in law enforcement is inclusive of Management, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Patrol Services, Public Integrity Investigations, and Corrections. Ivey formally supervised Florida’s Statewide Taskforce on Identity Theft as well as the Violent Crime Unit in the Orlando Regional Office of FDLE.   He will speak to us regarding privacy and personal responsibility with the media as well and HIPA and Sunshine State Laws.

  • What’s the most challenging part of your job?  Keeping everyone happy. I’ve realized you just can’t make everyone happy, but you can sure try.
  • What’s the easiest part of your job?  Interacting with all of the wonderful people & businesses and of course enjoying all of the events
  • What are your hobbies/interests? Spending time with family, going to the beach, scrapbooking, playing basketball & softball

Reports to: Senior Director, Marketing and Policy Development

Status: Exempt

Position summary:

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Marketing and Policy Development, this position is responsible for multimedia design and development for the organization inclusive of website; electronic and print communications; and executive-level presentations for varied audiences. The incumbent must be an experienced web designer and visual communications professional, with both the competency and demonstrated track record to recognize opportunities and respond effectively to key challenges.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

 Develop and design persuasive web layout and design elements

 Monitor and track website activity and trends to ensure measurable results

 Monitor and maintain web content

 Oversee creative design and development of all electronic and print publications, presentations, advertising and promotion, and marketing collateral

 Create executive-level presentations for varied audiences

 Ensure consistency in messaging and design among all communication vehicles

 Coordinate media buying with print, broadcast, electronic, and outdoor media

 Manage and update social media platforms

 Provide assistance for initial computer hardware and software troubleshooting

Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in visual communications, web design, marketing, or related field desired

 Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of web and graphic design

 Knowledge of principles and practices of communications and visual presentation

 Strong writing skills, including proper punctuation and grammar

 Advanced computer literacy, including web and graphic design software and social media

 3-5 years of professional experience in web design, graphic design, or related field

Software knowledge:

 Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe

Photoshop, Microsoft Office 2007.

Special requirements:

 Must be available to attend after hours functions as required. Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
