Space Coast Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) will be holding their annual Media Summit (formerly Media Roundtable) on Thursday, April 25 at the Canaveral Port Authority Maritime Center at Port Canaveral.

The Media Summit allows the public the opportunity to meet and engage with Brevard County’s top media representatives. This event includes presentations by multiple media representatives and offers attendees the opportunity to engage, ask questions and learn about the local media outlets. This year there is a lunch presentation in addition to the media  program. Attendees have a choice of attending the entire day or just the morning or lunch sessions. The lunch session features speakers from NASA –Kennedy Space Center, Walt Disney World – Orlando, sharing case studies of communications and public relations success.

Committed media representative include: Florida Today, Central Florida News 13, the Associated Press, CBS News Radio, WMMB, Brevard Business News, Al Dia Today, Viera Voice, and more.

Position Description

Space Florida is seeking a Marketing Communications Manager that manages marketing efforts for Space

Florida and is responsible for maintaining Space Florida’s overall image.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and implement a strategic marketing campaign for Space Florida
  • Conduct strategic global, national and local marketing research including identification of target customers
  • Develop a value proposition for conducting aerospace business in the State of Florida and for specific geographic areas of Florida
  • Strengthen Space Florida’s brand and public perception
  • Responsible for overall public relations and communications for Space Florida
  • Pursue coverage in a variety of publications and media outlets which may include op-eds, press releases, articles, advertising
  • Develop and implement social media strategy
  • Develop presentation(s) and promotional video(s) to make compelling cases for business development and speaking engagements
  • Recommend events for staff to attend based on strategic marketing goals
  • Create and lead events for Space Florida to aid in company recruitment, competitions, or to announce successes
  • Develop reports on customer satisfaction and Space Florida annual deliverables
  • Responsible to maintain a press list and maintain good relationships with media

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or similar discipline.
  • 5 years’ experience in marketing for the aerospace industry preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Prezi and graphic design.

You gain knowledge about your client or organization, you develop your strategy, you execute the plan and then what?  Mark Sandler from  SRA Research Group, Inc.  has more than 25 years of experience designing research programs to help determine if public relations and ad campaigns are delivering the right message to the right audience.

Once a public relations campaign is developed and implemented, it should be evaluated to determine how effective the campaign is in meeting the criteria that were set. The results of the evaluation are used both to assess the effectiveness of the effort and to plan future action. During this program, we will discuss what types of goals you can establish for evaluations and the variety of methodologies which can be employed based on the specifics of the campaign.  This will include DIY, traditional research, and social media methodologies.  Finally, we’ll discuss how to answer managements “big” question:  Was it worth it?

The agency provides assistance and referrals in times of emotional, financial & community crisis through the operation of multiple telephone helplines and the management of a comprehensive database of community services. 2-1-1 Brevard was the first organization in Florida to implement the 2-1-1 dialing code and serves as the lead agency for the community’s Homeless Management Information System.

Assists in coordinating and implementing an effective communication and marketing program for Lake County government and tourism.
Keeps the community informed of County programs, issues and accomplishments. Responsible for communicating information to the community through the media, presentations, printed publications, news releases, advertisements, e-newsletters, social media outlets, videos and County websites. Space Coast FPRA and Ad Fed October Scavenger Hunt!

The Space Coast FPRA, in coordination with Space Coast Ad Fed, will be hosting a Scavenger Hunt in Downtown Melbourne. We are planning a great happy hour event, incuding hors d’oeuvres, beverages, door prizes, and raffles to benefit Ad Fed and FPRA charitable programs.

The Hunt: 

Each team will be given a list of clues and will search the downtown Melbourne area solving riddles, hunting for clues and snapping photos with a smart phone. Sign up as a team of four or sign up as an individual and you will be paired up with other Ad Fed or FPRA members. Share some laughs, enjoy food and drinks, and see who can finish the scavenger hunt first!

There will be door prizes for first team to complete the scavenger hunt, funniest photo, and most creative way of solving our riddle.

As PR Professionals, a major part of our job is engaging the media and garnering media coverage for our clients. John Glisch, Associate Vice President for Communications, Brevard Community College, spent 35 years in the media industry and then transitioned to PR in 2011.  He will share his personal observations about his transition as well as key tips and recommendations on the most effective ways to pitch stories and engage media.

About John:

John J. Glisch is the Associate Vice President for Communications at Brevard Community College. He joined the college in 2011 and oversees its media, marketing and advertising efforts along with its website and WBCC-TV.

Glisch had a distinguished 35 year career in journalism before joining the college, serving in positions that included editorial page editor at Florida Today and as a senior writer and national correspondent for the Orlando Sentinel .

He was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for his work investigating the 1986 space shuttle Challenger disaster, and for an investigation into the human and environmental toll of toxic pollution in Florida’s water.

He was also the recipient of the nation’s highest awards for science and environmental journalism, along with two public service awards from the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors for his coverage of the nation’s space program and threats to the Indian River Lagoon.
